Well, let me put it this way. In 2 the first time I fought him I got his health more than halfway down. In 1...he killed me in 2 hits. BTW nice thread on Games Discussion.

I found it impossible to beat Sephiroth in 2 without having learned the Aerial dodge, the move that allowed you to do a double jump while spinning in the air. Damn Sin Heartless Angel.

I beat Sephiroth on my second try 😬
I couldn't beat him in the first one though. He was easier in the second one.

That's what I think he was tough on 1 but I beat him. In 2 he was much easier IMO.

From my experience, they were just as tough to beat. I say it depends on what level you're at when you fight him and the abilities you have equipped. I was around the same level in each game when I fought him (40-50).
