How, exactly? This show has one hell of a serious tone. The Lizard episode?

It adds depth to the character instead of having a one trick evil pony. All the more human for him to give in to his dual personality when he felt the world was against him. I am just not a fan of one dimensional characters.
I was a fan of the 90s spider-man but after watching this show I've gotta say im enyjoying this show way more then I ever enjoyed
tas.one thing I really like about the show is how they portrayed Norman Osborn he seem far more cold hearted and more fearless then he ever was in the tas.

Each character from the 90s TAS owed their history to a combination of personal flaws, bad luck, and the cruelty of society. Most of them were pretty deep for a kids cartoon. Beside lizards most of these characters seem like stereotypes of the old "evil dooers" stchick. Maybe that will change since this show is still just starting but I kinda doubt it.
Vulture - He was out for revenge for being screwed over by Osborn. This is alot deeper than the original Vulture we see in his early comic book appearances.
Electro - He's pretty much gone insane because of the tragedy that created him.
The Lizard - Well..he's th ****in Lizard.
Those are the first three episodes and each character had reasons beyond simple villainy. Sandman and Rhino were always in it for robbery and the normal villainy schtick to begin with. At least in Spectacular they have a slight Revenge motive. I'll let you take the win on Shocker though.
90's TAS is good, but extremely overrated. The storylines seemed kinda rushed at times as well. Spectacular Spiderman is better IMO.

Oh and I agree about the rushed episodes in the 90's tas but by that time I was already an avid spiderman reader so I kinda appreciated the fast pace and condensing of history.
Tombstone is pretty cool here. I never really cared much for the character in the comics, because he was just another superpowered thug for Spider-Man to beat up. Turning him into a mysterious crime lord was an excellent move. I'm also glad that "Big Man" wasn't THE Big Man from the comics, he was just lame.

Osborn
Smythe
Kingpin
Ock
Brock
Tombstone
scorpion
all were very human characters(no pun intended) in the TAS.
To be frank the only episode from this series that I enjoyed so far was the lizard episode. Other than that its been kinda meh to me.Oh and I agree about the rushed episodes in the 90's tas but by that time I was already an avid spiderman reader so I kinda appreciated the fast pace and condensing of history.
Most of the villains in that had a motive to do such things, smythe thought he lost his father, scorpion well you have already answered that, Ock looked like an actual threat and was mad with looking like a freak, Eddie was just very angry but you understood why in the TAS, I have not seen such anger or hatred yet from him and he is expected to become venom at the end of the first season.

Brock has already developed just a slight disliking to peter due to the photograph incident. I think it will be great that Brock is Peter's friend now. I really cant wait to see what turns him against Peter. And I really hope it isnt just the Symbiote as a motivation. Hopefully he'll have an anti hero attitude as well.

And I bet lying to Gwen about going to the dance'll piss off Brock even more, sealing their friendship off forever.

So who here saw the rhino episode? It was epic was it not? I loved it when Rhino rammed out of the side of the building seemingly falling to his death, only to make a crater in the ground and come out smiling. That was an amazing fight!
Rhino episode was boss. Best fight since the Lizard episode.
