Sam Worthington would be a great choice, can't believe he hasn't crossed my mind before, but he's a fantastic actor, I'd be fine with him.

Gary Ross to Write and Possibly Direct Venom

Source:Heat Vision October 7, 2009

Heat Vision is reporting that Gary Ross will write the script for Venom, Columbia Pictures' "Spider-Man" spin-off, and may direct as well!

Ross is already writing Spider-Man 4 for the studio.

The site says that the studio had no comment on Ross writing the project and whether Topher Grace would reprise the role from the third film.

Avi Arad and Marvel are producing the movie

Honestly, I really hope this movie gets made. Spiderman 3 was on the FX channel yesterday, and seeing that again made me crave seeing Venom in the spotlight of some form of production.

...Anyone here still holding out hope for this project?

It's become even more unlikely as Spider Man gets rebooted for 2012.
What studio head in their right mind, is going to spend hundreds of millions on Spider Man FX work for a project about an obsessive loner/anti hero/villain, with Peter Parker nowhere around? They want to spend their money on Spider Man; not his enemy/rival.

I'm hoping something will change with the direction of Spider-Man. The current film series has been successful so far. Why start over?
