i dont see why theres not a retarded rp in here.. and i dont mean retarded as in retarded.. i mean retarded as in retardedly fun, and do whatever you want. no plot. just characters interacting and acting stupid. rp was where i could see randomness and insanity before family guy, robot chicken and such were even thought up. so why not that load of fun? or, it could just turn like the happy tree friends... O_o.. you never know..
A story need the dramatic structure in order to thrive. I get your idea but I think the reason there is no such thing, is because it leave a great deal of responsibility to each participant. You would be under constant pressure to personally make sure everything is not stuck in the exposition. With a dramatic story that every player has in mind, the rising action is almost inevitable and a lot of pressure is lifted 🙂 Without a proper epitasis, players will get bored.
The reason it works on TV is because there is a script 😛

Besides, you confessed that you have not played all the games. He just said you can not catch an owned one at all and was probably informing you of the lack of such a feature in the games you have not played. He can not know what you don't know. So be happy 🙂

and for the little pink pony thingy.. if that was true, then how in the hell did seinfeld get so popular? or robot chicken? or monty python? and how can you say it puts pressure on anyone? look at hero high.. any sort of character interaction can essentially lock anyone if someone else doesnt post, or keep it going at critical points. your same points are also flaws in any rp. and with no plot or storyline of its own, it actually creates more freedom for all characters to act as they want.
look at the chosen few. how many issues came up because "everyone needed to be sleeping at the same time?" or the destiny orb one. where everyone was supposed to be on one side of a war between von karma and the goddess. but it ended up becoming a (much more interesting) war between naiyao and speculums villages. (or something) so.. yeah..
the only thing that drives people to want to post is their interest in wanting to keep rping with other people and respond to interesting posts. its about character developement and interesting interactions, plot and storyline hold less sway than you would think.
Monty Python and Seinfeld both have the required dramatic structure to function. Neither is stuck in the exposition. I have not seen Robot Chicken so I can't say anything about that. Also, I already mentioned that the reason such things work is because they are scripted. They can appear utterly random but they have a script that they follow, that include the necessary things in order for a story to function ✅ This structure is vital for all kinds of literature, everything from the Bible or longer novels to something as small as a joke.
About Hero High. There are multiple reasons that Hero High can work. I have not looked much into it so I can not say with certainty, but here are a few of the things that could be the reason it works: It is lead by someone who make sure that you don't walk in place on the exposition. You have regular villains or one villain that you can not get rid of. There could be social drama in it or a social climax of some other sort 🙂
I will not go into why a role play failed, because I weren't there and the reasons could be dozens. I will say though that the human race need structure. Constitutional or refined, but they need it.
still.. the whole scripted and structured thing has been done.. its prooven to fail as much as it succeeds. ive had awesome times with randomness in rp. try playing simon says now, its more fun with randomness... and drinking games... how fun are drinkings when you can add random rules to them?
i do this thing on halo alot (because forge world is AWESOME) called simon says. i set up maps and create things like indianna jones and death traps, and labarynths and such. and load up as many people as i can to play simon says. simon says jump. simon says jump. simon says crouch. simon says you are now a russian ballerina team, dance. and anyone not dancing in rythm of my humming will die. (and then i start humming whatever song comes into my head) or i smack a killball to chase them downhill while humming the indianna jones theme. simon says, you get a sniper rifle. but simon says that in order to use it, all shots must be 360 no-scopes. simons says we're playing bumper cars. simon says, we are going to reinact a scene from twilight, only in this scene, blade, the half human half vampire hunter shows up. O_o. simon says we're going to have karaoke night. you have 30 seconds to sing your ass off. the worst singer dies.
life is just more fun with randomness thrown in. i know this is different, being videogames, and rp, but i just recently made a new halo reach map that was like the old halo 3 fiesta mode. only its a small abbatior with close spawns, and every 45 seconds, the map fills with fusion coils and land mines. O_o.. to prevent spawn killing. its fun. id advise you all to join.
You can not compare social games to literature and dramatics. The psychology behind games is far different from literature. When it comes to a game, you need frequent rewards and short sessions of enjoyment at the time. There are rules behind the existence of Simon Says, you just don't need to know them 😛
rp is literature and dramatics? i always saw it as imagination and interaction. not that much different from games. which is why alot of people rp on wow and shit.. and the only main rule about simon says is listen to simon. do what he says. dont do when he doesnt say simon says. thats really it. hardly anything binding. and it leaves you free to do alot of other things, and throw in nearly any idea your mind can think of.
every other rp in here has a structure. and they're ALL failing, and dying out. why not try something new? if only just to have fun and get out of all these serious roles everyone seems to keep throwing out there. branch out a bit more.. everything doesnt always have to be like everything else. and just because structure is common, doesnt always make it the best thing around.
i just wanna see an out of the ordinary rp where people dont have to take it seriously. none of that "you're godmodding!" or "im not sure what happened, can someone catch me up?" just jump into it, and ****in have fun, ya know? hell, go with xans idea (that he mentioned a long time ago) about a godmod rp. every single person in is should have reality-destroying or dimention shatteringly overpowered abilities. O_o.. all of them. because who wouldnt wanna saddle cathulhu himself as a flying mount to ride into a sea of ice cream and widows tears while bon jovi slaps wet goat meat against wind chimes to make your badass theme music? am i right?
