Its kinda hard to come up with original characters when they have been used 5 million times each. i think it would be a good idea to let us use characters that have been in a game, OR have originated one. like all of anime video game characters would be able to be used, so those could start more fresh and new threads. limiting us to videogame characters that originated in games limits our ideas.
PEach that is true, but here is the thing...
I would love to make some vs. threads with lesser known characters...But no one else would really know who they are or know anything about them, and I would have to explain what they do and provide poop loads of proofz.
So coming up with an original thread is hard.

And at any rate, wouldn't that be what the Respect forum is for? You can link to Respect threads, wiki articles, etc., in a Vs. thread.
Fact of the matter is, the forum will never, so long as I am a mod, be open to anything other than what it is now. With the number of games and game characters that exist, I do not buy "everything's been done" as an excuse.
Actually not a whole lotta people really play Darkstalkers...Only me and a few others, most who debate it know only what others have shown or told them.
But regardless, sure, we all got out fun little games that not a whole lotta people played, personally, I would like to make a vs. thread using Caim and Angelus from Drakengard, but since most people I know of have not played it(I still blame fvckin Final Fantasy) the thread would only be a page or two long.

First of all everything jaxx said was correct, finding new characters is not THAT hard, but even if we did they probably came from the nether region of nowhere and nobody probably knows of them. and asking us to play different games to find fresh new characters is asking WAY to much just to start a thread. you could be a lil more open to us 🙁
The forum used to be open more than it is now, back when I took over as mod. It was a giant mess which took ages to clear up. Now that it's tons more active than it was, there's definitely no way it'd work well.
Not to mention that most people would not like it changed back.
So, no. It will never change as long as I'm in charge.

even tho it is active, all i see is pryon, kratos, and kain in threads. half the stuff people talk about isnt even related to the thread its in. everyone is tired of the same threads and most of the talk is bashing on how bad the thread was. so if that counts as active, then yes, you are right.
and if your last reason is that most people like it the way it is now, you should put up a poll and let us vote. if the turns in favor of leaving it the way it is, its pretty obvious what to do. if people vote to use ALL video game characters, it shows games vs. forums does need a revival.
and if you look at some of the new threads, they involve new people, but they have like 3 or 4 messages each. look at starkiller vs xenmas, for example. not doing so well. or sephiroth takes on the warcraft gauntlet. since sephiroth is being overused, it aint doing so well either. thats why we need all video game characters.

Those threads were also just made today. So...it proves nothing at all.

The simple matter is that there is no way of opening it up without inviting sheer chaos. You've been here all of two weeks. I've been here for five years, mod of this forum for three. It was a complete wreck when I took over the forum and before I changed the rules, and that was with a tenth of the activity this place has now. And it's not our job to make this place better, it is our job to keep order and enforce the rules.
I'm really not sure why you're not understanding this. That rule will not ever change. At all. Period. End of story. It is the one single thing that we are very firm about with this forum and will not ever go anywhere.

i believed from the first time you said you werent gonna change the rule, i just wanted you to see it from my eyes y it would be good to use all great game characters.
i wanted you to name 10 great characters, because you and GK both stated that " there are a lot of great game characters out there, but you need to find them". maybe not in those exact words, but you said that. so i wanted you to name 10 characters that are actually somebody good that we can use in the forums. if you cant name 10, then neither jaxx, BT, me, or anybody else can. which negates your theory of using other video game characters.

Try making sense. You said you'd be surprised if we could name 10 new characters everyone likes. I said that I don't think I'd be able to name 10 characters, period, that everyone likes. There's a lot of characters that one person would think to be great and others won't like. Personally, most of the characters I see in here regularly I don't like myself.
