Actually, Not wanting to publicly fund something because people don't support it is not faulty reasoning. Using something akin to a "et tu" fallacy to counter argue against it however is. Unless you think that paying taxes for something that the populace doesn't support is a good idea. It really kinda flls outside of the bounds of what a democracy is if the people are against something but the government goes ahead with it anyway.

Using a bad idea to justify a bad idea is like sayingthat its okay to do something because someone else is as well.

In the same vein the argument could be extended to justify "Anyone with 1,000,000 in the bank should have the taxpayers pay for their cosmetic surgery." People don't support it? Well, we pay for a war you don't support so too bad.

Yeah I totally mangled the quote but each time I read someone talking about another's post as being slander I'm reminded of the scene in one of the spider-man movies where J.Jonah Jameson addresses being accused of printing slander.

taxpayers being foced to pay for war: I see this as a necessity, because as a world superpower, we have to go out and flex our might. we have to represent, show the world how we got to be number one. A I said, I dont support this action, but it is the way it is.

taxpayers being forced to pay for abortions: I see this as making an easy way out even easier to someone who probably didnt even use birth control in the first place. she knwos the risk of pregnancy, and now that she has lost the gamble, taxpayers are forced to pay for her mistake. fair?
