He wasn't a traditional Joker in the style of the rest, but I appreciate 60s Batman for being something else entirely. People weren't afraid of authority, so Batman didn't need to be scary. They all knew then that they were being ridiculous; that was the point. And Romero nailed the ridiculous side of the Joker perfectly. He's not like the others, but he's top-quality in another way.

I wouldn't really say Batman has a "primary" canon... I know comics Joker has been portrayed as such from time to time, but comics Joker has been around so much he's been portrayed as everything.
