Paul is no more of a **** that Gary was. The difference is he has a reason for it other than just because.

Ash was always way better than Gary.

Gary didn't have an Ursaring. He could not crush his enemy's bones and flatten their villages. Therefore, he is inferior to Paul.

Charizard is also overrated.

Gary may in fact be an inferior battler than Paul.

Gary will always be a better rival. Paul is just Silver in disguise.

Paul has a Nidoking as well. But he also has an Aggron, a Hariyama, a Ninjask, and the incredible mountain of awesome that is Torterra.
