Alright, got a question for those of you who read books.
Out of all the fictional characters that you have been introduced to, which villain was written so well, or in such a bastardy fashion, by the author, that you felt genuine dislike for the villain and genuinely looked forward to his/her defeat?
Oh man, that's a difficult one.
I've just finished reading the Hunger Games trilogy, and President Snow was a pretty damn huge bastard, though by the end he certainly wasn't the only bastard villain.
Also Roger of Conte in the Song of the Lioness quartet; he was one of those charming bastards that was up to utterly no good and even after death didn't quite go away.
Just the first two to come to mind.
Well there was this guy Nastasen from the book Gladiatrix who gangraped the main character (right after her girlfriend was brutally murdered right in front of her I might add) when she was chained to the wall and couldn't fight back after half a book of abusing her and forcing himself on prostitutes. I started shaking with anger and felt physically ill at that point. But I have a seemingly disproportunate hatred of rape compared to average so that might just be me.
He wasn't the subtlest of villians I must say.

Umbridge from Harry Potter

Compared to the other *****, Snow wasn't that bad. Least he had style, which I can appreciate.
That said, the whole Captial was filled with huge bastards. They watch kids kill each other for entertainment.
And that went on for 76 years. Pretty damn evil.
Edit: Lot of Umbridge wank in here....
Catherine Roerva is the correct answer.

Oh, Snow was still a complete and total bastard,
Spoiler:. I just didn't want to give away anything, since I'm pestering GK to read the books now ๐
though I think in the end Coin won out - Snow may have been a bastard, but he was an honest bastard - to the very end he was truthful in what he told Katniss
I got the impression that the average Capitol citizen was completely disconnected from reality, and even if they disagreed with the Games, they were pretty powerless about it. The ones that had been brave enough to stand up prepared for a long time, after all, and had been waiting for the right moment.

Well one could make the argument that
Spoiler:. Also,
Snow got the last evil laugh
Spoiler:
one can make the argument that Katniss turned into one when she voted for the last Hunger Games. Yeah I understood why she did it but damn. Talk about making the reader change opinion awfully quick.
I know. They were mostly just spoiled people who did their best to look rather ugly. Was talking more in essence of the Capital Organizational structure. And yeah, not everyone there was evil either, but the vast majority were.
Also, yay for someone else to gush with about the book. I thought I was the only one who had read them. Now to get it out of my system.
Spoiler:
The ending was very sad to me...
Also Nemebro, I can say Umbridge is wanked in the face of Catherine Roerva, who lulzily takes this.

Oh god, when
Spoiler:I wished it was possible to slap someone through a book. I mean, as a character, I liked her and was sympathetic to her, but wtf,
Katniss voted for a last Hunger Games
Spoiler:
she was willing to continue to cycle that she was trying to end. Killing innocent kids wasn't going to bring Prim back, especially since the Capitol wasn't responsible for her dying.
Honestly, I was pretty shocked by the books - they're YA lit, but there's a lot of death, and Collins didn't hold back on the descriptions of violence. They're great, though. Jarring, and quite dark and harsh, but great.
I literally just finished reading Mockingjay about 5 hours ago - I read all three books this weekend ๐
