The romance was lame. In the comics when Thor was banished, he did fall for a mortal but that was when he had amnesia. What he didn't know was that he already had a lover in Asgard and when he regained his memories, things were a bit awkward for him until the mortal woman met somebody else the ****. Cut that last part out and add it to the movie and you got a pretty good twist.

Who the **** watches superhero movies for the romance?
You think I watch these movies for that overdone crap? I wish it wasn't used at all but Marvel Studios is insisting that making all the heroes look like a bunch of lovesick puppies is a good idea. Sure it works for Spider-Man and some of the members in the Fantastic Four but for Odin's sake, don't make all the other Marvel heroes go down that path, especially Ghost Rider. Action >>> Romance estahuh
I wish it had been explained to me like this.

Why does Odin seem fairly weak and hesitant in the film? cant marvel odin smash worlds if not solarsystems/galaxies at some point in the comics?I thought he was incredible or is this simply poorly portrayed in the films (or maybe he just was not as powerful at this point in time?).
But yeah, Thor is weaker in the movie than he is in the comics, so we can assume Odin is as well. Normal Odin is basically the definition of Skyfather, able to annihilate multiple galaxies in fights, reignite dying suns, fight across every plane of existence simultaneously, shaking the very fabric of the Multiverse. To be honest, I get the feeling that he may be TOO powerful to qualify as a Skyfather.
