Clips are essentially what make up trailers though. And trailers are designed to make the viewer interested in watching. 😮
Take Bridge to Terebithia. It's a heart-wrenching, personal story about childhood imagination, bonding, and loss, yet the trailers were specifically cut to trick people who enjoyed Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia into thinking it was another child-centered family-friendly fantasy epic. Many a confused tear was shed in theaters by poor children.
Or Bicentennial Man, which trailers made look like another Robin Williams comedy when it was, in fact, a romantic drama.
Or Kangaroo Jack, which based its marketing entirely on the wise-cracking CGI kangaroo from a hallucination, while the rest of the movie was very much not kid-friendly.
What I'm saying is, trailers are shit for getting a good impression of a movie, short clips even moreso.

Not all trailers lie.The sum is only as good as its parts.
The sum isn't always as good as its parts. That's a meaningless axiom when applied indiscriminately.
Especially when the actual emergence concept is that the whole is, in fact, greater than the sum of its parts.
