I do not see how you think I changed my mind. Maybe you are referring to my agreeing with Roland's assessment about the results reflecting a subconscious social influence thereby skewing the results? Well, I do agree with that but guess what...no matter how arrogant we think we are, or sociality came from Mother Nature as well.
It has been proven over and over again that an attractive face on a women exhibits strong estrogen content and an attractive face on a man exhibits symmetry and a high testosterone content. For men, this high testosterone level also does what…that’s right, makes the man leaner and have bigger muscles. Both of these physiological traits (male and female) point to good breeding, furthering the success of the species. I still do not think that the subconscious influence skews the results negatively if the study is looked at as a whole. (The fit are chosen as sexual mates more often than the unfit.)
Anyways, it was more about the 99.9% Americans look less good naked than you. Seems arrogant and unfounded.
It was American men only. Arrogant or not, it was to prove a point that not very many Americans take care of themselves. There is one aspect of your stance that I agree with somewhat; not all humans agree on what an attractive man is. I mean that not every person thinks big arms and a six pack are attractive. (Some girls in the high school I went to said I looked gross-they liked tall skinny men...I don't know why but they did.) This is what you were getting at and I agree with you there but these types of people are defying Mother Nature. Humans are so intelligent that we desire things in a mate that would not further our species...if we still lived in a less technology advanced world that is.
Let me put it this way,
"Every dude wants to look like Brad Pitt from Fight Club but no one puts forth the effort to get there."
I am not sure if it is always a choice. If someone has a medical condition they might not really have a choice...
Yes, they do have a choice...but their choice is much harder to make because of their physical condition. If they lack the mental capacity to make that choice...then their caretaker should be putting forth the effort to improve the quality of life for that individual. In the absence of an adequate caretaker, the person is screwed and will not live very long.
