Religion and atheism are not poler opposites in that they both have an opinion on god. The poler opposites of both would be to not care.

I guess his belief is an anti-belief. Or in other words, his disbelief in a god has become his belief.

It is actually a peculiarity of our culture to state a belief or disbelief in something (like god). We believe in angels (or god) even though angels may not exist, or we disbelieve in angels (or god) even though angels may exist.
