people should be allowed to do unhealthy things to themselves without fear of prejudice from the health gestapo
and anyone who is so commited to their dietary rituals that they have convinced themselves that the human body was designed to support a diet of only fruits and vegtables is willfully ignoring real evidence.

is it? Surely that's still unhealthy because they must be eating total rubbish?
I've met plenty of fat vegetarians/vegans; I was friends with one for a few years. He used to rant on and on about how unhealthy meat was, how it would kill me early, I laughed and showed him my trim belly each time.
Point is, not all fat people are fat solely because they "eat rubbish"; not all fat people are unhealthy.
Edit: I should add that he was fairly unhealthy, had bad skin color and was sick often, despite his "vegan-healthy" diet.

We do know what diets were like 4k years ago, as civilizations like the Egyptians kept records. They were agrarian and they also kept/rasied livestock for food, i.e. omnivores.
And yes there are plenty of overweight vegetarians who eat nothing but junk.

Neanderthals were almost strictly carnivores, something like 85% of their intake was meat. This is due to the environment the were adapted for (Ice Ages). Anyhow, Neanderthals were humans, but they were separate from our Evolutionary line.
Fossil remains of teeth of our ancestors do tell us what their diet was like.

We have entered the realms of hypothesis heaven.
No... fossils, clothing and tools of our ancestors do in fact serve a purpose in telling us about how they lived and what they ate.
Saying "Until then, people survived quite well on vegetation." is a hypothesis, possibly. What foundation do you have for this?

Our ancestors.[ediit], Oh, you edited your post. Okay, Apes and animals of that nature.
They didn't eat much animal protein though. They mostly ate ants, eggs, fish and things of that nature.
Our ancestors weren't gorillas, though humans and modern apes do share lineage going WAY back.
Anyhow, your article supports what I am saying in regards to our ancestors.
"Recently, some researchers, in examining their fossil teeth, have claimed that the Australopithicines were vegetarians; but the evidence indicates they were omnivorous. It is clear that by the time "humans" evolved, from Homo erectus through to what is now considered "modern" humans, such as Cro-Magnon man, humans were primarily meat eaters.According to J. Brownoski, (The Ascent of Man), it was meat-eating that led to the rise of modern man. Homo erectus invented stone tools for hunting big game which led to the invention of more advanced stone tools by Cro-Magnon to modern humans.

You came from what/where?
Also of note, that article as a whole is anti-vegetarian/vegan:
"So what can the diet of gorillas tell us about what constitutes a healthy diet for humans? Little if anything. Humans are omnivores and need animal protein as well as plant foods to maintain sound health."
You should read it, it's a fairly good article.
I still think that it was fish that was the most common protein along with insects as the article mentions.
My conclusion of the article is that yes, we are omnivores, of course. Plants and fish fish fish to maintain good health.
You can assimilate fish better than any other animal protein. Beef, lamb (yummy), pork, chicken are all great, but they are harder on your organs to digest

In the end a balanced diet is best for good health for modern humans, and in the past our distant ancestors ingested a sufficient amount of meat and plants to allow for the body to develop in ways that would not have been possible otherwise.
As others have said here - Vegans can be Vegans if they want, but they shouldn't imply that meat eating is wrong (in terms of physical health) in moderation and balance, or that meat didn't play a part in our evolution.

Anyone else think that debbie is talking out of her ass?
I know what I'm talking about. I do agree that a well balanced meal including proteins are beneficial. Okay, then meat, better? But that's not the way most people live. Less meat is better. Way less meat. I'm not talking likes and dislikes in your food. I'm talking about how your body metabolizes it. BTW I am not a vegan anymore. It was too difficult, but in the end I was able to rid myself of some health problems. It's kind of a detoxing diet.
Also, I have nothing against others for what they eat. I just steal bites......eat

Originally posted by RobtardA lot of vegetarians are fat because of the dairy products like chesse they consume for protein.
