well not really. afro samurai is a arker grittier manga type. its more inspired by dark western comics of vertigo/darkhorse etc than anything. avatar is more like america's answer to naruto/bleach n stuff. teen titans is a nice show, but it doesnt pass as an anime, theyr TRYING to make it look like it but the overblown expression just dont work too well with the english language{MAIN reason why its hard to have american ANIME}, the only reason i like it is cause of slade.
big o and code lyoko, i havent seen yet. but even when you have spparently authentic american anime/japanese anime like the animatrix, you see some stupid things{although subtle} like, the american producers are only interested in showing the things which AMERICANS typically think defines an anime, from the style of figure drawing, to the slowness of the scene, over the top fight and body physics and some almost still frames of shocked/saddened individual in which the screen is animated in a way as to IMPRESS upon the person the "power" of the emtion. not to mention, over the top expressions again, normally over tiny occurrances.
however it takes SO MUCH MORE, to create a good japanee anime/manga. and specially because avatar is NOT trying overly hard to simply COPY the stereotypical anime characteristics and is more organic. thats why i think it qualifies as a good american/anime.
