i think he could. jin is pretty good at in-fighting. about the only move ryu can do at close range is the shoryuken. all his other moves have a lag time and require good range to pull off (hadouken takes a while to charge while tatsumakisenpuukyaku would be too inconvenient at close range).
Jin has good in-fight ability. the mishima ryu literally utilizes a powerful step-in that closes the distance between the opponent and yourself very quickly and to make it worse the step-in is done with a low crouch to avoid the bulk of anything that can be thrown at you. on top of all that Jin does more uppercut movements which is perfect for in-fighting since its quick and compact. the mishima ryu excels at uppercuts and crouching step-ins (hence the whole tiger references) and that is just bad news for anyone trying to fight them at close range. on top of all that they have good power, insane durability and a very wicked speed.
that is just the mishima-aspect of jin's fighting style. from this he still retains a few moves. his new fighting style, hte kyokushin is an even better blend of attack-defense since they also have a powerful step-in, a good good variety of compact uppercuts and chain combinations attacking upper-to-mid, mid-to-lower or all three in a swift well placed combinations.
but two things kyokushin gives Jin that mishima ryu didn't give him was the evasive tactics and good footwork. besides the low crouch, mishima ryu doesn't really have evasive tactics but kyokushin has that along with various back steps, sidesteps and parrying techniques that utilize the "rock away" movements (like jin's 'mental alretness to seigestsu strike' for one) and usage of good footwork for better placed combinations and fluidity in movement. anyone who watches Jin being controlled by an expert will know what i am saying.
and lastly, the kazama-ryu gives him good circular movements, with various throws and reversals and wristmanipulations that can be utilized in his close range combat. it also has the same various level combinations blows like kyokushin (Jin's three-ring-circus for one). the counters and reversal bone breaking and submission holds is the other bad news as i mentioned.
so basically, yes i think Jin can take on next to anyone from the fighting game world when it comes to close range combat.

Well, I'll just say what I said a page or so ago.
Hworang forced Jin to retreat. When he went Devil, he just charged and Hworang beat him back.
As good as Hworang is, he's not Ryu's level. I seriously hope you realize that.
And don't give me "he has fought Jin before." This is (as far as we know) the first ever time Hworang has seen his rival sprout wings and charge at him. I'm gonna guess Jin has not utilized that in their past fights.
I'm not emo mane. I just thought it was f*cked up how GG and FL were treating Nik, but I'm over it. I had no prob with you. Ryu and Jin are about equal in H2H IMO. Ryu's style focuses on strong, accurate single strikes(the opposite of Ken, who uses combos). He also has simple, yet effective grapples, Ryu also has much more reach than Jin. Jin however, has better speed, which will help out Jin, and for the reasons Sado mentioned put him and Ryu equal.
Well, like I said, Devil Jin's easiest way to victory is to just keep in flight and spam those laser beams.
I don't think we should ahve too much faith in Evil Ryu's SGS. Did he ever use it on anyone? 'cause it seems to require a lot of power and skill and we've only seen Akuma use it. Akuma >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ryu so Ryu might not be able to use it effectively like his superior Akuma.

Ryu never used the Shungokusatsu.
IMO Devil Jin has way more versatility and could just defeat E. Ryu by using smart combinations of laser beams, flight and telekinesis.
However the Devil Jin we know so far is not that good. If Jin has reached a higher level of control over it then I'd say Ryu is just screwed beyond belief.

I liked how Hwoarang kicked Devil Jin's ass in that non-canon movie. It was awesome.
