Not always, but it did work on Iron Man.Some people hate him, some people like him, which is what the writers want to get from the audience, not indiference, which many people feel for Cyclops.
he was fine the way he was... cry
and besides, for years a large amount of people hated the guy, he had very few fans...

Lately, Cyclops's behaviour seems kinda .. forced, and I don't think it'll get the effect the writers are hoping for.Despite the fact that Messiah Complex was said to be Cyclops's moment to shine and such, it didn't really do much for me.
thats because they wanted to change the character, rather than do what joss whedon was doing in astonishing, which was to simply expand upon him...

Messiah Complex screwed up everything in the x-books.
It destroyed Cyclop's character, erased the entire cast from New X-men except for Pixie who Marvel is now butchering into the new Jubilee and basically was just one big mess which solved absolutely nothing.

so like if cyclops kept the baby instead of giving her to cable, it would've resulted into bishops future?

messiah complex, all in all, was solid imo, a solid concept and story, it just executed several aspects of the story incredibly poorly...

The acutal story doesn't bother me, but rather what it did to the x-books. Sure to some it injected new life (X-men, Uncanny), but others were on a roll and now have been canceled to make room for a bunch of poorly written spin offs
