X-Men: Utopia

i thought 499 was a bit weak... i dunno... just didn't strike me as being that satisfactory...

i did like how scott was able to fight off four x-men without trying to hurt them, though...

that link was just... ok, i guess...

what, is san francisco outside stark's jurisdiction?

I think it's supposed to be a parallel to real life. Didn't San Francisco stick a fork in the US Military recruitment programme? Or so I hear?

The only thing I liked was the art for the Omega Red part and that he was portrayed like a real threat. Too bad he didnt had his armor.

That just looks fricking awesome!

I know, Emma, Namor, Doom, Loki, the Hood...don't know who that last person is? Purple Man?

Anyway they're going to need a lot of mirrors.

Isnt that Pete Wisdom in the middle? Anyways, Emma's there and thats reason enough for me to get it.

Come to think of it the guy in the middle looks a bit like Hellstrom?

Anti-Tony Stark Brigade.

It's going to be launched like the Illuminati in a one-shot. Who knows what will happen after that.

Emma and the Hood?

Now I don't care much for it.

Your loss, if that is Hellstrom though 4 out of the 6 members are powerful magic wielders. That's going to suck for Strange.

I think it's going to be one of those grey alliances, they probably won't be evil per say.(I'm not 100% sure that is the Hood) Emma's motive may be down to something Stark does to the mutants later on this year. Namor and Doom is self explanatory.
Loki...not sure yet. And I'm not 100% sure about the other two.

and to think, when i heard whedon was leaving, i was actually worried...

loved the issue, even bianchi's art was better than i was expecting...

the dialogue, the pacing, nothing to complain about on that front...

Pretty standard set up issue IMO, kind of boring but not to bad. Whedon's first issue of Astonishing was spectacular though.

Loved Bianchi's panel layout.... wish he didn't render the living hell out of all his work though.

i agree that it was a standard intro issue, but how it was done, in the dialogue especially, made it alot better than average imo...

I really liked it the fist read through... but to be honest I have to admit the dialogue started to irritate me the second read. There was far to much of it... and most of it was needlessly repeated. Emma is fancy and high borrow and thinks Wolverine is brutish and uncouth? Storm is a queen now - and also fancy and high brow - lets joke about how this changes her relationship with use. And did Armor really need to have a forced student - teacher moment with everyone? It was kind of grating to be honest. 🙁

see, thing is, i got the impression ellis was doing his best to keep things moving, get everyone back in touch with everyone, so he could move on... i mean, look what we got, we got:

a beast/armour scene
a scott/emma scene
a scott/beast scene
an emma/armour scene
a storm scene with almost everyone
a crime scene scene,
and a blackbird scene...

whedon, for all his greatness, could take things awful slowly at times...

i like plenty of dialogue, as long as it doesnt seem superfluous, and for the most part i thought it wasn't...

emma slags everyone, so it was natural she'd have a go at storm and logan... armour is the new kid on the block, so its only natural (imo) that she would have a moment with each adult, as its their job to make sure she's ready for whatever's coming... storm had been out of x-affairs for a while, so a settling back in period was necessary, imo...

i think ellis just wanted to get all of this out of the way so he could get things up a gear in the next issue...
