Looks is the first thing that comes to mind, but a lot of people will find a significant other in a friend they've known for a while, so whatever they lack in looks is made up by something else.

You're telling me what I already know. And did I say anyone was bad or wrong for not choosing an attractive person? No. I didn't. Anyone knows that attraction needs more than just looks in order for any potential relationship to blossom. But initially, however fortunate, sometimes looks are a major factor.
Ahhh, but making a statement like "It’s like I don’t even know if girls even care to look hot anymore" sounds like you are implying that girls intentionally do not look good as some others..... that they are not putting alllllll their energy into looking great( even when they can't measure up to society's notion of 'hot'😉
Yes there are some that dont even attempt to look good, while there are others who look great without even trying.
AND YES is the FIRST FACTOR we all consider, whether we admit it or not. ITs just that whats good for one is not good for another.
Once someone looks good to you then that should be the end of the story. Who says she has to be drop dead gorgeous?

I don’t know, I think a good part of what makes a women desirable should be attractiveness in a way that makes a guy feel good and not feel regular. Maybe that plain or ugly girl look appeals to guys. Like for example, I’ve seen a lot of skinny guys that have significantly overweight women as partners that they worship.
I know looks aren’t everything. And I know some cute girls can be monsters. But looking hot can be an important part in attracting.

I think there are more hott guys than girls. And not because I'm Gay.
Girls have the advantages of make up, eyeliner, mascara, hair/extensions, etc.
Most guys, straight or gay, don't use any of those things, because they are not comfortable doing so/or dont feel the need to at all.
When a guy is hott, he's hott. Most guys only worry about their hair style and muscle mass. And those two components are pretty much all there are too it.
Meanwhile, when you see a really hott girl, try to subtract her eyeliner, mascara, lipgloss, under eye cream, lip liner, highlights, extensions, ear rings, thick uplifting bra, high heels, and the rest of it, and see what your left with.
Usually the hottest girls look like shit in the morning. And the hottest guys still look hott in the morning.

The adult life is better than being a H.S. kid. To me at least. And i had a good childhood. As an adult you get privacy, (your own apt.;condo) you get to have a drink without hiding the fact and not behind moms back in her house/bsmnt. You're smarter more confident and intimacy with a chick is felt even deeper, physically and mentally. You'll see, if and when you get there. But just because I don't see alot of hotties doesn't mean my life sucks. It'd be better with more cuter women around though.
