The official respect thread of Dante

Started by Superboy Prime24 pages

Perhaps we will get to see how badass Dante is from Nero's perspective. Just like in MGS2. We all wanted to play as Snake...but we didn't. Instead we just watched how cool and badass Snake really is while we were controlling the whinning Raiden. That was Hideo Kojima's intention. Though...at least we will still get to play as Dante, so that is a plus. I think Dante being playable was a last minute decision because of fan outroar Nero caused.

Agree, pretty much agree. At least I hope he gets normal storyline and not the one like Vergil's in DMC3.

Dante vs Arius (DMC2)

Arius is the primary antagonist in Devil May Cry 2. He is an extremely wealthy businessman that owns an international company called Uroboros. He wishes to find the legendary Arcana, artifacts which would allow him to raise the demon Argosax from the demon realm and use that power to control the world. While he is completely human at the outset of the game, he does have access to a variety of powerful magic which allows him to fight against capable demon hunters such as Dante and he is also capable of creating his own demons in a form of his choosing.

He's the one who's responsible for Argosax and Despair Embodied being summoned to the human realm (and apparently the reason why Dante heads to the hell dimension).

He challenged him, being his equal in terms of the ranks- but got pwned by Dante's dad only to be summoned 2000 years after that so the son and heir of legendary Sparda can repeat the beating on him.

I see.

Possessed war weapons?

Dante's nemesis in that game, Arius, is sort of "Doctor Doom of DMCverse"- billionaire with occult knowledge, that's why Dante's rogue gallery in that game is so...odd and sometimes high-tech based.

Dante vs Trimagia (DMC2)

Dante fights sort of avatar of elemental magic itself, concentrating magic of fire, ice and lightning into himself (fighting the elementals of fire/lava clearly shows us that Dante isn't the one to be intimidated by fire breathing dragons, he knows how to deal with that stuff (not to mention that when devil triggered with Ifrit, he sort of turns into demonic embodiment of said element).

In the start of a fight it's three headed monster with each head responsible for each of the elements listed above, then the heads fuse into one.

Dante vs Oranguerra (DMC2)

Dante fights demonic enhanced gorilla (reminds me of Ky-Gor or whatever it's pelled from Spawn's rogue gallery)...that superstrong ape isn't true challenge to him.

Dante vs Arius- in details

In the middle of the fight Arius summons Furiataurus- minotaur-like demon. Dante kills that creature quite easily.

One thing I have to mention about Dante’s Time Lag power in Quicksilver mode: activating Time Lag gives Dante COMPLETE invulnerability for something like ½–a–second or even a second. Many professional players use it to do things like explode Hell Wraths at point blank range with no damage, or continue combos without having to interrupt via a parry or dodge.

Great thread, by the way!

How about Broly using a Pimp bash move called ‘The “Where’s mah money, ho!?” Hammer’? 😄

Trickster
http://www.devils-lair.org/tourney/Dantelink-Trickster.wmv

One of my favourite videos in Trickster mode, but Dantelink Rocks in plenty of different styles.

My favourite combo in that video runs thusly:

Jet Stream (forward + hold Triangle while armed with Agni & Rudra). Immediately switch to Rebellion. This charges a move called Drive while Dante completes the Jet Stream. The final hit knocks the opponent down, at which point Dantelink lets go of Triangle to unleash the sword slam linear projectile and launch the enemy. Switch to A&R and Air Trick (instant teleport) to the enemy. Keep him suspended in the air with a shot of Ebony & Ivory, and then perform 2 jump cancelled Ærial Crosses. Finally, switch to Rebellion to slam the enemy back to the ground with a Helm Breaker, killing him. And then to top it off, turn around and taunt the next opponent behind him!

And now, to those Dante's appearances that don't belong to major DMC storyline.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

The appearance of Dante in that game is sort of Capcom-approved fanfiction on DMC2 plot, describing Dante's pasttime at the hell realm in the end of DMC2.
The plot in general has almost nothing to do with major DMC storyline, but the thing that the version of Dante used there is the same one as one from DMC2 (including coin and stuff) and Atlus consulted Capcom in terms of the stats of character.
So in terms of stats and powerset it's proved that it's Dante from DMC2, though storyline isn't directly connected to major DMC storyline and non-canon to it (it's sort of Capcom-approved "official" fanfiction on Dante's pasttime in Hell realm). Though if we are going to add that to the chronology, it would be between Dante's and Lucia's endings in DMC2. Though Dante jokes there more than in DMC2, and seems just having fun from everything that happens.

Dante gets hired by mysterious old man who's in realty Lucifer in disguise to hunt down 8 powerful demons guarding keys form hell (Candelbra of Sephiroth), as well as the main character of the game, Demifiend (or rather Demi-emo), a schoolboy granted great demonic powers by Lucifer.
At first Dante's your enemy. He hunts you (Demifiend) down all across Tokyo. He toys with you ("I give you 5 minutes to decide: do you want to end in a coffin...or a dumpster?"😉.
To recruit him in your party you need to kill 8 demonic guardians, then Dante joins you as he wishes to see the end of the show and to get his jackpot (in the end he seems getting it).

Dante is one of the strongest physical fighters avaliable in the game, as well as having good resistance against magical/physical attacks and complete immunity agaist demonic magic such as instant death spells (I'd like to note again that it's the same version of Dante as the one used in DMC2 in terms of stats/design). Though he's good against demons\corrupted angels controlling Amala multiverse (such as Lucifer, Beelzebub and Metatron (the last one is angel, an avatar of god), he's next to useless in the fight with last boss, Kagutsuchi, the light that destroyes the universe and gives birth to the next one (mystical embodiment of Big Bang). Due to Dante's resistance to mystical attacks he doesn't die in the fight, but nothing of his attack can damage that boss so he's basically a waste of slot in that fight, though agaisnt all other bosses on the level he's great and cool and etc.
