"Stay in your place, Elliott, or I shall
have 465 restrain you."
The placid girl with a blank face standing behind Reena seemed no
real threat, but 465 was much more than she seemed.
She had arrived at the facility just over a year ago, a frightened
child who suffered from a split personality disorder. Her file from
the orphanage claimed that she had been removed from an
abusive situation. The experimental procedures she had endured
during her time at B.A. only added to her unfortunate life - adding to
her list of disorders kleptomania, obsessive compulsive tenancies,
paranoia, and Dissociative Identity Disorder.
But the B.A. didn't carry. She was merely an experiment, and a
good one at that. Her multiple personalities and dependency upon
others made her much easier to control than fellow experiments - given
a command, she would care out the task to the very end. Ironic,
really, that her genetic modifications allowed her to control others
through their personal belongings.
With a snap of Miss Byrd's fingers, the girls eyes came into focus - two
orbs of piercing, unadulterated blue.
The eyes always told who was in control. A flat, faded blue was likely
to be an unimportant lesser personality, likely induced with hypnosis.
A livelier light signified one of the three dominate individuals.
Light blue like the sky on a clear day was Mattie, the original
personage of the young girl who had been "stolen away" from a
better life. She was gentle and caring - a child who knew no evil,
she was completely unaware and unable to consciously use her powers.
Blue akin to that of the deep ocean was Lynnette, the most
free-minded. Likely to do as she pleased and when she please,
Lynnette was the least predictable. She could go from hot to cold
in a matter of seconds, and a single word could set her off. With
enough concentration she could exert limited control over and individual.
And then there was Anna. As dark and uncaring as her blue-black
irises, Anna was the most likely personality to manifest. Unlike her
two counterparts, Anna was able to utilize her control to the fullest,
and it was not in her character to hold back once she did so. A
cold-blooded killer driven by a lust for revenge.
"I have those items in my pockets that you told us to collect,
Miss Byrd. I'm quite sure that their very close to some certain
individuals. Am I to be allowed to play today? That would make
us all very happy, Miss Byrd."
It was Anna, Anna who knew what all of her seven or eight
counterparts thought, Anna who enjoyed being in control, Anna
who subsisted on pain. A small smile spread itself across her doll
face as her hands buried themselves deeper into the folds of her
smock. It was a smile would never touch her haunted eyes.
"Perhaps, Anna, perhaps. For now, have Mr. Bennett undress
himself - no, no, just his HAZMAT suit, child."
The man's eyes grew wide in terror as Anna withdrew a locket from
one of her many pockets and rolled it between her fingers. Smiling
even wider, she plopped herself down on the floor and began to hum.
"Miss Byrd, please," he began to argue even as his hands tugged
at clasps on his suit. "I have a wife and two kids! They need me!
Y-you can't do this t-to me, I-I-I'm too young to die! I-I- you can't!"
"Oh, do shut him up, Anna. The faster he undresses, the faster this
test can be completed and the faster I can do more important things."
The petite brunette pouted for a moment, but Bennett was quickly
silenced, though his eyes continued to frantically flick back and forth as
his hands moved deftly down his body.
