you create and design your own superhero or villain and you have the option of going around and patrolling the city doing missions for contacts, or teaming up to protect the city, the planet, and sometimes the multiverse. You level up by getting xp and increase in security clearance or threat level the higher up you get the more powers you will have until you max out at level 50

i played for 2 years after release. It was a much better game during its release than it is now, theyve messed it up with patches, but if you were to start playing now you wouldnt know the difference.

Having played most MMO's made since 2001 this ranks up as my second favorite behind World of Warcraft. There is nothing "hardcore" about it like most other online games and its really just pure fun. Throw in the comic book aspect and its a blast.

You design your own hero, from costume to his backstory. Then you go through the city taking missions from contacts, other famous superheroes, and thrashing villains on the street. Villains range from your basic batman level street thug (you rarely ever fight just one villain at once mind you, its like a real comic book, your hero with fight around 15+) to some badass alien, high-tech villains.

Story arcs made the game most fun for me. These are like epic stories for your character that, if it was a real comic would result in several issues leading up to a climatic battle against a heavy level villain and usually saving the city somehow.

The game really makes you feel like a hero which is why i liked it so much, but now im waiting for Marvel Universe Online, which should be similar except i doubt the make the mistakes with MUO that they made with CoH. Until that is released though, Hellgate London (an online game made by the same people who made Diablo) comes out on halloween and im really looking forward to that.

If anyone out there plans on playing Hellgate London let me know

As long as frigging Spider-Man can't beat Surfer, or something insane like that. I realize play-balance is an issue, but if they ruin the characters in MUO I'll be upset.

Also, is it real-time in CoH? One of my concerns is that MUO will be too limited, not free-form like the Spider-Man series or Hulk: Ultimate Destruction....which would be orgasmic as MMO's.

You will be able to go anywhere in MUO, streets, top of buildings, inside buildings, anywhere. I dont think people like spider-man and the surfer will fight each other, but heroes like that would help guide you and give you missions. In some cases they might help you fight villains. For example if you have a long series of missions given to you by professor X and it culminates in a battle with The Blob, colossus might escort you on the quest and help.

Also, the storylines will follow actual comic storylines. For example, Captain America had he been alive when the game was released he would have died in the game when it happened in the comic. Or if for example, another onslaught type storyline occurs, the same thing would happen in the game.

yeah i've briefly played with Nvr before
