Regardless of all that stuff, it is not debatable that humans are destroying ecosystems when they do not have to. The only reason that corporations do not bother to "protect" the environment is money - it cost more to be efficient and they want to squeeze the money in fossil fuels dry.
Stupid, stupid.

It only costs more because it's "alternative".
This entire page has tons and tons of great information pertinent to the discussion. Now I know why Al Gore NEVER has a chart up in his presentations for anything older than 600,000 years...his whole point would be moot.Gores main point is or should be the temperature is rising to fast, we humans is helping the global warming process so that as an example glaciers are melting away much faster than they woulld if nature/natural global cycles did it without our aid.
The technology is there
if we can support it in enough numbers to make it affordable to all socio economic groups we can make a differrence.
[or not if the oil/auto giants are reading from the same page on this one]
We need to take care of our planet because all our actions have consequences on other people and animals.
We need to stop destroying trees, because in doing so we kill off many animals, as well as make the atmosphere less supportive of life.
Also we release cancer causing and brain damaging fumes all over the world, and then inhale this crap.
And on top of that, one of the healthiest foods, fish, is dangerous to eat in excess, because of the mercury present in our waters.
However....
The world isn't going to come to an end any time soon. All of these "the world will end" theories are repeated and recycled bullshit.
I doubt we can truly destroy or wreck the entire planet through our carelessness, because this planet as a whole has survived FAR WORSE than anything we created.
But we are still responsible for each other, and life in general. And yes, our actions of disrespect towards the environment do result in lowering the quality of life and lowering the expectancy of life, nonetheless.
