Agreed. The list is flawed in many aspects. But Supes vs Surfer is painfully obvious. Surfer simply has too many powers.

Agreed. Martian Manhunter should have made the list as well. Spawn shouldn't have made it. Prof X shouldn't have made it.

CM was on the backup list due to his immaturity.

Hal Jordan wasn't alive then so he didn't count. (Even though, Firestorm wasn't alive either, but he counted.)

Kyle Rayner was the only Lantern and he was too inexperienced at that time.

At that time MM was still very vulnerable to fire.

He has took blasts from Thanos, SS and the list goes on.
Heat Vision is at 11'000 Farheneit degrees, Thor can handle it with major ease.
Thor also usually absorb attacks or parry them using Mjolnir, and when he's facing a real tough enemy, he call upon his most powerful attack, a Mjolnir charged from GodForce would have crushed Superman's hand and then knock him unconscious.
