No one's disputing that the video was made with benign intent. That doesn't change the reality that it offended the subject of that video.
So why was it ok for him to rip the balls of Vinny Valentine, then? You seemed to find that funny, so it must be case relevant. Anyway, I've read all the posts and seen the videos and here's my nickel and dime.
I have nothing personal against anyone here. Ken has his opinions of me and I have mine of him, so let it be known that what I am saying isn't intended as some massive personal stab, just an observation here.
I think because Ken is more liked around here, and may even pitied by a few (Again, just an observation, personal opinion), he is getting special treatment. To be perfectly honest, I think the video wasn't THAT funny, but that's it. It just wasn't funny. Not because it was "offensive" or harsh, just because I don't think it was funny.
I think if Ken had come in here, swallowed the pride and just seen that funny or not, it was intended as a joke, people would never have made such a deal. Sure, there were a few comments, but it got blown way out of proportion when Ken came in and started going on about psychological trauma.
Nobody has the right to not be offended, because that means freedom of speech is restricted. People get offended if you say Britney Spears is a skank bag, everyone is offended by something. If you start catering to people getting OVERLY upset by something that wasn't INTENDED to do so, then you're gonna have a large bill.
No offense to Ken, but to say he's dated a "couple" of KMC chicks is an understatement. I can't count on one hand how many of them have been the "love of his life", and there are people he considers great friends who agree with me and are just too afraid, or too kind to say it. Personally? He can do whatever the hell makes him happy, man. I say that with utter sincerity. As much as I find it a bit odd, it's his life and he is free to do as he wishes, but when it's as public as he makes it, he cannot expect people to associate it with him and then, as Kramer did, make fun of it. Personally? I wouldn't have, but that's me.
Generally, Ken had every right to come in and say "Hey, I didn't think that was very cool. It's a sensitive subject for me and I'd appreciate if you didn't do that again." and ask for an apology, Kramer probably would have given it.
Besides, some poor guy started a thread in "Lana's" forum about how he had a crush on her and more or less asked her out. Pathetic? Sure. Spam? Totally. All she had to do was close it, but she RE-opened it so that people could actually ridicule the man, by her own admission. Allegedly she got requests to leave it open for a bit longer and she did so.
Everyone gets humiliated or made fun of at some point. Knee-jerking only makes matters worse.
