and yes, folklore such as this usually comes from other cultures, so one can never be too sure. perhaps the topic should remain open just in case anyone has info from other cultures which may or may not have had such beliefs on the medicinal purposes of gypsy tears.

Yes it is unfortunately. For example, in FYROM (Macedonia) 75% of romani children are attending classes for children who have difficulties learning, and around 70% of them are unemployed, of countries average 9%.
In Romania and Slovenia they are heavily discriminated against.

While I was browsing internet for gypsy tears, I found out that in Slovenia they actually kicked them out of their homes on the grounds that they are Romani people and should not be allowed presence in Slovenia at all.

Its sad.
