Illadelph's Multi Genre Team Tournament Confirmation Thread

I think he should have made a limit on the number of characters from each genre. Or out right made a rule that one had to have a tv character live, a cartoon, a movie character, a comic character, one from a book, a video game, ect.

Cartoon Bo Jackson from "Pro Stars" would legitimately be a good pick. Their base had all manner of sports-themed gadgetry, and while Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky needed to rely on plot devices for success, Bo was obviously on super soldier roids.

...if picking up a giant tree trunk and swinging it through a metal tank isn't at least Class 5, I don't know what is.

Bumped for pertinence. Bonus points if someone actually drafts him.

Screw that noise. Some of us wouldn't have entered if we needed to delve into other genres too much. It can be fun and make for powerful teams, but there's a reason we're all on a comic book site.

I like having the option but not needing to do it.

But it's not like you couldn't draft someone from heroes, a character from the bionic 6 cartoon ect. Comic fans are known for knowing a shit load about any medium where people have inherant powers or cool tech.

But not all are, and that's the point. By making it multi-genre, it makes it cooler for people who know more, so I think it's a fun decision. But by forcing multi-genre, you exclude those who don't.

My team, for instance, batted around probably a dozen non-comic people but decided against them all simply because we don't have the same comfort level with them. We were familiar with them, but felt like we wouldn't debate as well with them.

I'm slightly surprised not to see any Terminators in any line-up ... or Robocop/ED209/Robocop 2 .... or even a power ranger.

😐

Or just putting off those who prefer the comic medium, because these tournaments are pretty much geared towards scan posting, and the ease within that.

Proving points with cross genres (with the exception of, perhaps, Manga), is harder than just sticking to the illustrated panels ready for use.

Or the Ninja Turtles 😄

I tried to push for a few book characters early (probably not who people would expect) but the restrictions on magic were too strict for me to seriously consider them.

Video games are always fun, but defining power levels is always so hard. Manga is at least easier in that respect, but I don't know much about manga...my research for teh tourney and our opponents has about quintupled my knowledge on it.

Youtube makes it a little easier. And, I guess, you could always scan whatever novel you drafted a character from.

Someone should have picked Achilles or Ajax or...

Oh how about Balactus

I had the idea of drafting some high-up Harry Potter character (most likely Voldemort or Dumbledore), and just amalgamate them with speed/durability. ermmha

One hit kill?

Christ, Harry Potter. Suddenly I'm thrilled we banned magic attacks, even if it eliminated one of my early favorite choices.

T-1000 would have been a great pick. Not really stronger than spiderman. Not even close. Good durability but can be shot open with a shot gun. The versatility.

Wolverine?

But the problem was no magic users, right?

You know who could have been a good pick.

Optimus Prime from the Animated show and Movie

Right.

And drafts technically aren't over. I'm not sure why people are throwing good picks around like the T-1000 or Optimus (who would be questionably powerful in any incarnation). Someone could still switch a disputed pick out at this point and take them. I'll leave my leftover ideas for once battles start....

Yes, but the same goes for Shinobi Shaw or Nightcrawler.

If it's dodgeable, apparently it's ok. And, average joe streetleveler in comics could dodge any Harry Potter spell.

Yeah, I have some good ones that I don't want to share yet... but, I figure even in the battles, they could be allowed to replace banned characters (if the character proves to be a loophole, and is banned mid-tourney).

I don't know the exact rule pertaining to that.
