I gotta tell you i'm as big a spidy fan as anyone here. and ever since the start of civil war i had this underlining feeling that, that whole event was thought up to find a way to split peter and mj, i'm sad to say i was right. And i thought about protesting at first, but then i read a comment on OMD by joseph himself. and for better or worse i will stay a reader of spider-man comics

For whatever it's worth, the situation is not as clear cut as one
might hope. The reality of any writer workingfor any company, DC or
Marvel or Image, is that when you're handed a franchise character,
you're basically entrusted with something that the company owns, and
the company has final say in what happens to that character, because
as a writer, you're only there for a certain amount of time and then
the next guy has to come in. Spider-Man belongs to Marvel, not to me,
and at the end of the day, however much I may disagree with things,
and however much I may make it very CLEAR to all parties that I
disagree, I have to honor their position.
In the Gwen storyline, yes, I wanted it to be Peter's kids, Joe over-
rode that, which is his right as EIC. I got the flack for that
decision, but them's the breaks.
In the current storyline, there's a lot that I don't agree with, and I
made this very clear to everybody within shouting distance at Marvel,
especially Joe. I'll be honest: there was a point where I made the
decision, and told Joe, that I was going to take my name off the last
two issues of the OMD arc. Eventually Joe talked me out of that
decision because at the end of the day, I don't want to sabotage Joe
or Marvel, and I have a lot of respect for both of those. As an
executive producer as well as a writer, I've sometimes had to insist
that my writers make changes that they did not want to make, often
loudly so. They were sure I was wrong. Mostly I was right.
Sometimes I was wrong. But whoever sits in the editor's chair, or the
executive producer's chair, wears the pointy hat of authority, and as
Dave Sim once noted, you can't argue with a pointy hat.
So at the end of the day, all one can do is try to do the best one can
with the notes one is given, and try to execute them in a professional
way...because who knows, the other guy may be right. The only thing I
*can* tell you, with absolute certainty, is that what Joe does with
Spidey and all the rest of the Marvel characters, he does out of a
genuine love of the character. He's not looking to sabotage anything,
he's not looking to piss off the fans, he genuinely believes in the
rightness of his views not out of a sense of "I'm the boss" but
because he loves these characters and the Marvel universe.
And right or wrong, you have to respect that.

All this does is get a person like me(who gave up on all spidey comics) to buy this arch, and after i am gone again....but it does not matter to marvel they get what they wanted

Yea they've been trying to lose MJ for years now I can't believe they just won't get the point. Its not gonna work and the fans are gonna hate it.
Thats why it's never worked before, thats why it's not gonna work this time and thats why it'll never work in the future.
Unless Spidey and her are pretty old and she dies some incredibly tragic death for Pete like in Reign.

This pisses me off that they just won't give up on getting rid of MJ. IMO they're just being to damned lazy to come up with new inventive stories for Peter. Theres no telling how many great stories they can still tell while moving on threw Peter's life but no they'd rather be lazy and just go back to telling the same trouble with women stories they did when he was in high school. Have they even stopped to consider the fact that he won't have the same problems with women he had in high school now that his being Spiderman is public? He can be honest about why he stood them up or is incredibly late or just disappears when things get shitty.
If I wanted to read about teenage high school Spiderman I'd read Ultimate!
It's funny how Queseda is pushing so hard to ruin Peter's marriage considering that he is also the one responsible for the whole Sins Past thing.
In a recent interview, J.M.S. confirmed that when he was writing Sins Past he originally wanted the kids to belong to Peter, not Osborn, however Joe Q refused to allow it because it would be "wrong for Spidey to have a bastard child". So instead of giving Peter a child out of wedlock they made his first love a whore who slept with his most hated enemy?!?

Anyway, Spidey's character is about hardship. Mephisto is a huge plot device that is a little hard to accept without cringing, but the story itself (and the outcome) mesh pretty well with Pete's character and how they've portrayed him through the years.
And hell. I halfways agree that MJ was a downer. I don't know if Pete ever officially hit Black Cat, so the writers really need to make up for lost time.

Figuring out how much was retconned will be a pain in teh ass, but meh.
