NO. It's someone close to the new gods. Someone who has helped them in the past. Takion asked why he'd betrayed them. And metron was perplexed and then wondered why he hadn't thought of it. Could be One of the Old Gods, Highfather, Infinity Man, or someone so obvious that it will just be like, oh shit of course. So obvious, we can't see it.

Why Ares? Just curious to your line of reasoning, on another note it's cool to see DC doing a "murder mystery" of sorts on a cosmic scale.

I don't know why I keep trying to look for clues about Orion being the possible character, maybe it's just because he seemingly acts dumb sometimes but he is Darkseid's son, and with that, he should have inherited at least some of Darkseid's genius. To top it off he's been a wielder of the ALE in the past, and recently they showed his demon face again, it just seemed like maybe it was some kind of hint.
Of course I'm probably totally off-base, but since it seems like it would have to be someone close to the new gods, Orion would fit the bill. Top it off with what seems like his increased rage levels recently. Just a thought. This would be with some kind of plot device which allowed him to be in two places at once, etc..
I mean it could be Himon for all we know, I just thought it would be a bizarre twist if it was Orion for some reason, allowing him to fulfill the prophecy of kill Darkseid for instance.

After minutes of grueling deductive research, and using the most of my brain, I figured out some not so obvious clues. I hope this helps. 🙂
He's got a stick! I think it's either Johnny Cochran New God, or that old white guy, that was going to take over.
