So we'll just disregard the fact that they were both on the planet when it began exploding, disregard the fact that we never saw them 'hanging in space' until after the explosion(s), and disregard the fact that afterwards, they seem to be amidst a punch of rubble?Okie dokie. 🙂
Look again at the scans you posted.
Initial explosion, caption says that explosion was "tossing him through the air". The blast continues to rock the planet.

Next scan:
J'onn is standing there, you see him get tossed into the air and the GL shield breaks. You see a big chunk of rock by him.

Explosion continues to destroy the planet. Nowhere on the scan does it show John Steward or J'onn. The only thing we have at this point is that they were tossed into the air.

Planet is pushed through space from the explosion, nowhere do we see either John or J'onn.

Planet hits the sun, causing sun to be engulfed in chain reaction.
Last scan:
We see the sun way way off in the distance blowing up. You see rocks in the current location. Amongst those rocks is John Stewart. J'onn flies up.
Nowhere in any of those scans does it show either J'onn or John Stewart anywhere even remotely close to the sun. The initial explosion hurled them away before it got worse.
