The game was leaked in its entirety last night. The full roster is only 35 characters. K. Rool isn't part of it.

Ridley being a boss isn't as degrading as him being an assist trophy, though. It would just make Ridley look like a Pokemon knockoff or some mindless pet, especially if it were a Samus user that summoned an AT and happened to get Ridley.

Likewise, it would look just as ridiculous if a Donkey or Diddy Kong user summoned an AT and happened to get K. Rool to assist.

So true, i was hoping for a boss fight like Ridley, why do two classic villains, one of which being a legendary veteran have to loose out on such great potential, instead we get clones and more clones.
