Exactly. BBM wasn't a great movie. It wasn't even an entertaining movie. A theme is all it takes for most people.

What did that have to do with my question?

What about themes?

I assumed you were addrssing the fact that everyone thought Brokeback Mountain was a great movie because it was about gay cowboys. If not, then I apologize.

Many in the gay community feel that a movie should make their MySpace list simply because it has 2 guys kissing.

Or, are you saying that I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry was a good movie? (Which I can't address because I didn't see it, but I assume it was as entertaining as any other Adam Sandler movie.)

I think its obvious that Urizen only liked Brokeback Mountain for the one reason that you mentioned: it has 2 guys kissing. It could've had a horrible screenplay and direction, but he still would have "fkn loved it". So, I was asking his opinion about Chuck and Larry, another gay-themed movie that I have no doubt he's seen.

And yeah, it's pretty funny.

Most "gay cinema" does. And that's a fact, there'sno arguing. Most gay cinema picks up fans based soley on how attractive the cast is and how often they take off their shirts.

I'd challenge anyone who has a contrary opinion to present us with an example of descent gay cinema.

Girls Will Be Girls and Priscilla:Queen of the Desert make no attempts to be serious hollywood dramas. They are what they are.

(It's like asking someone what makes them who they are, and then for one reason or another they become a totally different person, thus dismissing everything they've professed to be up to that point. It's amazing what you can do to make a person change themselves.)

I enjoyed it. The acting was good; the story, despite being done many times over (two lovers who can't be together) was better than most other chick flicks (lack of a better word).

I also do not think this film would fall under "gay cinema" per se, despite being about two gay men. If a gay aspect is all that is needed for tradional gay cinema, then many moives would fall under that label.

No, it wasn't "gay cinema", until that's what ever reviewer decided to make it. (along with Hollywood and George Clooney types)

What'd they say about "To Wong Foo" then?

Exactly. Priscilla:Queen of the Desert was much better. Terrance Stamp was ****ing awesome in that movie; anyone that says that wasn't a perfect depiction of my grandmother, didn't know her.

But they all acted like it was the original brainchild of Hollywood.

I saw Priscilla in the theatres; I loved it, was a laugh through and through.

You realize you indirectly linked your grandmother to 'General Zod', it's the role I association Stamp with most often. But I take it you're talking about scenes like when he 'dryly' tells the drunken bar wench were to stick it. Great scene, that.

To Wong was crap, those three weren't remotely believably gay, the horrible script aside.

Really? Wesley in drag and acting gay as hell wasn't remotely gay?

Neither was Phillip Seymour Hoffman in 'Capote'.

I was more linking her to Supreme Chancellor Valorum.

(Actually, I was referring to the scene where she pulled up her stockings and hiked through the desert trying to find help)

It all depends on how well you act "gay".

So you don't think Wesley Snipes did a good job?

No way, especially when you look at them comparatively. (Hint: Too Wong Foo was an American remake of Priscilla; it starred Hugo Weaving of V for Vendetta and Matrix fame)

Not really, it was way overdone, imo. Then again, it was a comedy.
