Luthor, Alexander Joseph "Lex"
What you need to know:
Luthor publicly challenged Superman to a duel on fair terms.
Superman answered the challenge, and himself suggested they journey to a planet in a Red Sun system to settle things man-to-man and one-on-one.
Opening round featured Superman getting the bad end of the fight, until he got over his mental block of hitting Lex full force, and hit Lex full force, knocking Lex flat.
For whatever reason, the duel isn't considered over at this point.
Superman only considers that Round 1 in the thought balloons of his mind, and goes back to the ship to get some water to revive Lex and continue.
When Supes returns, however, he finds Lex is gone, apparently recovered and beginning Round 2 from some unseen vantage point.
Superman acquits himself quite well, finding a way to neutralize every deadly trap Lex springs on him.
A lot of time and distance get covered in this round, however, and the two combatants find themselves separated eventually, by a violent and deadly storm.
Supes finds abandoned shelter.
Lex finds a community of native people, and we need only a little more story action and plot twisting before Round 3 proceeds.
I've said it before in different words: I love 3-dimensional villains.
So the following will probably stand forever as a favorite...
