Dead? No way. At the end of his previous series, he was still alive and well... He's just not being used at the moment. Come to think of it, the last time ST was featured in a comic was back in 2006 (unless you count the comedic Ambush Bug: Year None series.)

Sorry, the scans with Ellaine kind of suggested that, though I don't really know the exact context of the scans. Reading up on Vertigo (especially Lucifer and Swamp Thing) are on my list of things to do.

That is kind of sad, especially since they can't use the excuse "he's too powerful for us to write for all the time!" when they have characters like The Spectre being used recently

Pretty sure that was an alternate version of ST -- the Lucifer series had a few shout-outs to him, after all. Regardless, per the final issue of Swamp Thing v4 (which was released after Lucifer concluded), the 'real' ST is alive and well... Like I said, there apparently just hasn't been a need for him to appear in more current continuity.

In recent stories/events, Spectre has been watered down to the point that he's pretty much laughable. Personally, I'd rather not have ST ever appear in a comic again, then have him suffer the same fate. /shrug
