Never there was a retcon about 3 years ago with New Xmen. Phoenix is Jeans ultimate potential as a psi. It is an evolved state of Jean. That is also how it was when phoenix was originally created in 1980. Jean burned up in re-entry and became one with the primal force of creation she was an entity of pure thought. She then reformed her physical form as Phoenix. Jean was Phoenix it was her in union with the primal force of creation. This happened in uncanny xmen 101. However a retcon in 1986 changed the relationship making Phoenix a seperate firebird entity that took on Jeans form and was Dark Phoenix because it couldnt handle human emotions. This retcon lasted until 2002 when New Xmen was created. Anyways gtg for a little while. I'll PM you the full details. Please dont turn this into a Phoenix debate thats exactly what Mr Whirly wants. Visit the threads i told you to read them all and you will be clued up.
I have every issue of New X-Men written originally by Grant Morrison and illustrated originally by Frank Quitely wherein it is eventually revealed that Xorn is Magneto, Magneto alters time and space by reversing the earth's magnetic poles, Cassandra Nova walks through some of the Shi'ar Empire, Magneto's ghost was still in Genosha. Last story arc with Beast when he found the "egg" was illustrated by Marc Silvestri (or Turner, I mix up their artwork).
I have What If Phoenix never died and every single issue of Uncanny with John Byrne's artwork, including the Death of Jean Grey. X-Men vs. Teen Titans with Darkseid? Have that too.
I have the Paul Smith issues including when Scott ran into Madelyne Pryor and Mastermind was toying with them. I also have Uncanny #175 with Phoenix on the cover fighting the X-Men.
When you said "separate firebirds" I read that as there was one "firebird" for Rachel, one "firebird" for Jean, one "firebird" for Dark Phoenix...as opposed to that being an energy signature. If that is not what you meant, my mistake.
