You can upgrade Surfer btw. (if needed from classic to current)

Superman blue could definitely take the silver surfer. He pretty much has the same powers and experience...

I dont really know much about superman red.

In the beginning he was, but as he learned about his powers and how to use them, that weakness all but disappeared.

doubt any of them could cope with current Surfer, nor Surfer of old. too resourceful, not just energy but also Astral Plane attacks, ability to synthesise high level magics (Odinforce!) and just monster energy absorption capabilities.

Because Thanos is a lot more powerful than Surfer... And it's very hard to tell who has more power between Surfer and Thor, so most people recognize that Thor is a much better fighter than Surfer and reconcile his defeats that way...
