I'm glad to hear this...

'Predators' Sequel Still on Rodriguez's Mind

A tiny — and I mean tiny — nugget of news has emerged which suggests there may still be life in a possible Predators sequel. Following the success of Robert Rodriguez‘s Predators in 2010, there was some talk of a possible sequel from the Planet Terror and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For director. More recently in an interview with Shock Till You Drop Rodriquez suggested he hadn’t completely forgotten about the franchise, stating We were thinking about it. I don’t know, I’ll have to talk to them. They just had a regime change over there — we’ll see what happens.

The regime change he refers to is the resignation of 20th Century Fox co-chair/co-CEO Tom Rothman at the end of the year. New blood at the top of the studio may just provide the impetus to push a Predators 2 into production. Despite a lukewarm critical reaction to Predators, the financials are certainly in its favor, having racked in $127 million, on a budget of $40 million. With figures like that, the head honchos at Fox might just take notice.

Well maybe this time, Rodriquez will direct the sequel himself.

No point taking credit if he's passing the directing helm to someone else...

Yeah, it would be badass if he directed.

But I actually thought Predators was pretty solid. Didn't like the unnecessary role reversal with Topher Grace's character, but other than that it pretty much rocked.

You mean Topher turning out to be a serial killer?

I dunno, maybe the Preds actually have a macabre sense of humour in hunting down a serial killer themselves...something that humanity's moral values prevent us from doing ourselves..?

I agree that the Topher twist was bad. It was simultaneously forced and predictable. I felt it really didn't add anything except a twist for twist sake, and his character obviously was out of place the whole time, so it was obvious he had a secret.

Yeah, basically what Myth said. It was just stupid they way he said something to the effect of "I feel more at home here.." That was just dumb. I don't care if you're a serial killer or not, a planet where YOU are the game would not be the right place no matter WHAT you are. Unless maybe you're Rambo or something.. lol. And Topher Grace is no f#cking John Rambo!

I mean, at the point in the story we didn't need another twist. We're on a planet that predators are using as a hunting ground and our heroes are in the middle of 'the shit.' That was good enough, quite frankly. It was a lot of fun. The Laurence Fishburne twist was good enough. That was great. They went too far with the Topher Grace thing.

Actually, a sociopath who doesn't want to hide his true nature for fear of being caught, could feel more at home in a place like that.

I thought the twist was fairly well done for a Predator movie, it's not exactly a movie about intricate storylines.

Exactly. It shouldn't be. And it made the story a little too intricate and unbelievable.

Well between the Topher & Fishburne twists, I personally found Topher being more credible. I mean Fishburne was clearly a bit overweight for the role he played...my first impression was that he was living the good life stranded on the planet.

Secondly, the director's last movie prior to Predators was Armoured which also starred Fishburne...so being pals with the director might've got him the role that wasn't necessarily written with him in mind.

That small twist made the story intricate and unbelievable?

😬

I had to write in every post, that includes this one so there... naw na na na boo boo!

Speculation that a sequel will be announced at Comic Con...

[Source]

We here at Scified hope this is going to lead to the announcement of a new movie, possibly carrying on from the events from 2010's Predators, although it is possible this could be just news of a next gen game for the Xbox One and PS4. For sure we will be watching the SDCC with wide eyes and open ears!

So is there gonna be a female sniper in the sequel that's like a homage rip off of the female sniper in Riddick 3 that's supposed to be a rip off from the 1st Predators?

😆 We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

Brody's nose also survived.

Predators was like Hancock. Great up until the Yautja/Mary's powers was/were revealed. Downhill from there.

WHAT????!!!! I loved Predators! You take that back or.. or I'll..... Just take it back!!!

I kinda agree about Hancock tho Mary having powers was cool, i was bothered that they never really went anywhere with it.

No thanks. Big Predator fan here. Love both the Predator films and think the creature is awesome.

But the 2010 film just did a terrible job with creatures. AVP R got it right as far as the Yautja was concerned. To be fair, I did feel Predators did most the other things right. If we had a Predator movie with the characters of the 2010 film and the Yautja from the AVP R film it'd be almost perfect.

AVP: R was damn near total bullshit. That movie was HORRIBLE and does not deserve to even be semi related (distant cousin, twice removed) to the Alien OR Predator franchise. It seemed like it was done by mentally challenged teenagers. Perhaps a good movie to laugh at, but other than that... Fu#k that movie.

I'm not sure of the comparison to Hancock (another horrible movie), but I do think that some of the twists at the end of Predators were unnecessary and showed that it was trying a little too hard to fool the audience, when in actuality it was just stupid. Topher Grace's little reversal being the main thing I'm thinking of. But I really enjoyed the adventure of Predators, cliched though it may have been. It was fun.
