"I mean, isn't Hercules in DC's Wonder Woman called Herkales or something?Yes. And at marvel too. They are the same character used in different stories and ways. Herakles and Hercules and every name related to the myths are public domain. Same happens to the Norse myths, and egyptian. Tecnically is the same guy with writers using the names they like or see to fit best theyr stories.
"And what's stopped DC from bringing on Thor to fight Superman decades ago? It's because of legalities that Captain Marvel had to cease being published against Superman in the 1940's - that wouldn't happen today - and is forced to title his mags SHAZAM, being beaten to the copyright punch by Marvel's CM."
Its not the same thing. Cm is an invented character especifically for the comics audience and domains. Its not myth. Merely based on it.
Marvel having a CM as well was a rip off that tecnically was legal, because the original captain Marvel wasent being published at all, at the time.
I know it's not quite the same; just an example of legal wrangling. What could be considered property changes in different times; when lawyers get involved, anything can change. My point is, if Thor is part of common culture, why hasn't he been running around DC more often, or any other company?
When Stan Lee brought him into the Marvel Universe in the 60's, part of it was that Norse myths were less known and more obscure that the Greek ones. I'm gonna check the copyright print on an older Thor comic soon as I can, see what's there. 📖
DC Thor has appearances since the siver age. DC just likes to use more the Greek phanteon. I mean there is an understanding that Dc uses the greek most and Marvel the Norse most. But both show up pretty handy. The names are the same.
What can be copyrigth its the design of Marvel Thor. The blonde guy with that specific uniform. Im not even sure. The rest that goes from the myth, isent.
All right, good enough. Now, back to the thread.
Even counting the Avengers/JLA series, with everything in his arsenal - including belt of strength - and stays focused (losing his temper cost him first time), Thor wins against Superman 7/10. Hell, maybe even kills him in battle to the death, because he's more accustomed to that. 😄
Superman beat him once(rather moderately) and still had enough stamina and strength left to hold his own against the Avengers!!
Superman CAN and WILL beat Thor about 7/10 regardless of what any superman hater says. Screw that magic thing(it didn't work the first time). Both are powerhouses and very skilled fighters but Superman's superior versatility combined with his superior intelligence(Supes beats geniuses on the daily) gives him the win, not easily but hard fought.
I don't care if you're a norse god, myth, demon, semi-god, when you go up against Kal-EL you're undoubtedly fighting "The Best", <--- thats real!
Superman is the quintisential Super-Hero of our time and wins 95/100 of his battles using 90% battle strategies and 10%powers. He withstood a direct Hulk blow in the canon battles with the Hulk, something many heroes cannot boast at all..Thor has been beaten by the Hulk on many occasions and had his hands full with Gladiator(Superman copy) in which he had to have "outside help" in order to win...

This is what Khellendros was talking about in the why everyone loathes DC thread.

Did you see what happened to Superman after he did put Thor down? He was put down himself by the rest of the Avengers. Aquaman saved his life. Hold his own? He got bum rushed.

MODERATELY? Supes had to empty his tank to put Thor down; he could barely stand afterwards - looked like a stiff breeze could knock him over. As it turned out it was the next Avenger, hah! (Still was a weird scene, though; all of them ganging up like that) He couldn't fight anyone at that moment at all.
Screw these other matchup comparisons: Thor has trouble with Hulk, Superman beats Hulk. Superman has trouble with Captain Marvel, Thor beats Captain Marvel. On any given sunday, someone wins.
