You're talking about Thor who has battle Heralds who can travel just as quick? Pretty damn sure he could see them. Not seeing Superman isn't a factor, because 1) Thor could sense him, and 2)Superman couldn't travel at a speed to where Thor couldn't see him.
Also, maximum flight speed has nothing to do with close range battles, unless he's gonna fly away, and make a horrible attempt at trying to zoom back in, because then he's gonna walk in to Thor waiting for him with a large dose of Godblast.
