1. You could have used a better example than that, as there's plenty of merged characters. There's Vegetto, Thanoseid, Super Soldier, Dark Claw etc. But that doesn't mean they're not different from the two characters they're a merger of.2. They're god-like beings from another world, in which they rule and they're both on a quest for great power. They also have a certain ability that could kill almost anybody, unless they're not protected by something (in Darkseid's case, the Source and in Shao-Kahn's case, Raiden).
3. All you compared was the height and built. Is that all?
And it's not just the gore, it's the blood and the Finishers too, in which this game still has. And I sure wouldn't say it's a terrible or mediocre game, as it looks like it plays much better than the last three games, which I believe most people are more concern about.

The blood and the gore are in the same category. Finishers are hardly a unique feature that distinguishes MK. And I never said MK was terrible or even mediocre, only that the gore was all that distinguished it.
