We don't see his back in the next scan. It's my opinion with the dialogue that he is impaled. It's just my opinion and since the writer hasn't disagreed with me it's my interpretation.

i don't think he would want to to come back if he did he look at what is left of Asgard how Thor and Balder screwed everything up and he would kill himself just so he deosn't have to clean the mess. My guess Odin wouldn't be back until Mjolnir is about to break or is broken to save Thors butt
