The site references Aristotle, but doesn't actually provide any evidence.

What Aristotle said about Spartan women.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Aegean/7849/herodotos.html
What Herodotos said. You don't have to read the whole thing. The other site summarizes both.

Article about the role. Not sure of the authenticity, but it's consistent with most other explanations.

So what exactly is Grand asking anyway?

I'm not sure I completely follow because no matter what is referenced he is calling bullshit

Actually no, I asked for evidence, Rocos linked to a site that made some claims but gave to evidence for them. He then linked to contemporary accounts...i.e evidence. Though I liked you assumption that "no matter what is referenced he is calling bullshit" how can you make that statement when only one thing was referenced...

I said it didn't fit the Athenian Model- which it didnt.

I dunno man sounds like you are lying. You blantantly said it wasn't a democratic system. Thats what we were discussing not wether the systems were the same but wether they were democratic.

I was actually asking Phantom_Zone to prove his claims about womans rights in Celtic Tribes and the idea of Democractic Tribes in Iceland.

When I ask for evidence maybe a contemporary account or an early chronicle or narritive would be good.

Er sounds like your making excuses to me. You didn't complain about the source you just fobbed me off and said the system was not democratic. I have already posted the link im not posting it again but wiki got the information from The Njals saga.

Er in your last post you didn't mention anything about Celtic women but I posted a link for that already.

If it doesn't fit the Athenian Model, then it is not a democracy- end of.

Really? Anybody else who say this apart from, serioulsy. I was under the impression that a democracy has to fit into the defintion of what a democracy is and not neccesarily fit The Athenian model.

I thought there were different types of democracy and that was just one example.

I was not aware of that...evidence?

The militaristic structure of Spartan society allowed their women an unparalleled freedom of movement and financial independence. Primary texts about women in classical Sparta provide examples. Xenophon’ s "Constitution of the Lacedaemonians" discusses how Spartan women were educated. Plutarch’ s "Life of Lycurgus" talks about Spartan education and marriage customs, and his "Moralia" reports sayings about Spartan women.

The democracy the US runs now is closer to an oligarchy than it is to the Athenian model, so no. Try again.

Did you? You thought wrong.

The United states is an Oligarchy, not a democracy...

But it's considered as a democratic republic, so there are different forms of democracy that don't fit into the narrow definition of Athens. If it did, they hasn't been a civilized democracy since.

Many dictators like to call themselves Democratic...but they're not.

(Correct, there never has been)

Ok, thanks for the attack.

Why so agressive?

I assume fobbing off means lying and trying to stir up trouble...correct me if im wrong.

Well no fob off means not giving somebodies argument due respect ie somebody waits for an explanation and a completely unsatisfactory explanation is given. It could be mean a lie though but I don't think you are doing this in this instance.

Its not a term I am familiar with,

how am I not treating peoples arguments with due respect...I simply asked for evidence...

Well we no longer live in the era of Greek city-states.

Yeah and when people give you evidence you fob them off, or you are at least fobbing me off.
