i never said PS wins this fight -- in fact it would be utterly OUT OF CHARACTER for him to challenge thanos to direct 1on1 combat.
his power levels fluctuate, but his role in the quintessence tells you he is a cosmic force. he has defeated dr fate on at least one occasion and has directly battled a number of mystical monster-type characters who wouldn't mean anything to you if i DID name them.
among magic users in dc he is considered to be damn near invincible and spectre didn't kill him because he couldn't. again, that speaks to his cosmic role. he has handled superman effortlessly on at least one occasion, but that wasn't a direct battle. still, it was clear PS was well above superman. his powers even extended over creatures in the dreaming.
despite that, he doesn't HAVE the kind of feats you want -- he hasn't had his own comic in 40 years for gawd's sake! but there is not a chance in hell thanos would be able to ko PS. what is he gonna do? blast him? brilliant . . .
far easier to believe PS bfr's thanos to hell or heaven, or some nameless dimension, or bfr's him to a different TIME. once again, he is DIFFERENT from other characters. what we would call pis for some characters is NOT pis for stranger. most of what we know of him we learn from OTHER characters, because that's just the type of character he is. he does not fit in these matches because these kinds of fights are not what he does.
you wanna say thanos wins. bully for you. no one on earth could possibly expect anything different from you. your close-mindedness is what ensures you will never be a respected debater on this or any forum.

I highly doubt Thanos is going to kill Stranger, but Stranger as a rule doesn't unleash firepower anywhere close to being able to damage or KO Thanos.
Stranger is the vastly cooler character though. 😎

I know this is old, but i hate the fact that you're using that feat as a way to downplay the Spectre.
1. This was not hostless Spectre, but Hal Jordan Spectre.
2. Jordan was new to his job as the Spectre.
3. Jordan was trying to use the Spectre as a way to end all evil, he felt with the power of the Spectre he could help the universe by judging all that is evil.
4. When Jordan wen to Apokalips it was to save a child from Darkseid. Darkeid blasted Spectre with his OB, and Jordan got piss, and literally turned Darkseid into a pile of bone, or was that ash. 😕
5. After Darkseid giot killed by Jordan, Dakseid was resurectted, and Darkseid even glot by telling Jordan there is a higher power that doesn't want him dead yet, that's why he was brought back.
6. Jordan realize it's useless to fight, and he took the child to safety.
Next time, get you're facts right before you try to downplayed a character.

The same situation applies here. I see Thanos being able to bring death when in the past the Spectre has failed to do so. Thanos was death's avatar and could bring death to those who already destroyed death in a universe where no one could die.
Next time think before you challenge me. I don't take prisoners.
Phantom Stranger is bound by rules preventing him from direct interference like the Prime Directive on steroids. IIRC these rules were imposed by the Presence itself and the implication was that he would murderstomp his foes in a heartbeat given the opportunity. Considering the people he sends the trenchcoat brigade after on occasion as well as some.
Additionally IIRC he claimed omniscience or something like that.
For the spectre fight didn't spectre turn him into a rat or something because he knew he couldn't kill him?
If PS wasn't limited by his restrictions he'd take this but on a day to day basis I'd back Thanos because I just don't think Stranger would be willing/able to break the rules for someone like Thanos short of a HotU/IG event in which case he would lose (Stranger that is)

I responded because you were talking out of you're ass by claiming Spectre couldn't even kill Darkseid, and from the comics i've read about Darkseid (that's a lot mind you) that was the only time they ever battled each other.
