among magic users in dc he is considered to be damn near invincible and spectre didn't kill him because he couldn't. again, that speaks to his cosmic role. he has handled superman effortlessly on at least one occasion, but that wasn't a direct battle. still, it was clear PS was well above superman. his powers even extended over creatures in the dreaming.
despite that, he doesn't HAVE the kind of feats you want -- he hasn't had his own comic in 40 years for gawd's sake! but there is not a chance in hell thanos would be able to ko PS. what is he gonna do? blast him? brilliant . . .
far easier to believe PS bfr's thanos to hell or heaven, or some nameless dimension, or bfr's him to a different TIME. once again, he is DIFFERENT from other characters. what we would call pis for some characters is NOT pis for stranger. most of what we know of him we learn from OTHER characters, because that's just the type of character he is. he does not fit in these matches because these kinds of fights are not what he does.

his best appearances were PS v2. it's 41 issues and ended in the early 70s (i think??). anyway, he came into his mystical power in that run. i've got a few of them, but they're not all that great and no real 'feats' are presented in them.
since then, he's basically been like destiny -- he sort of plots and manoeuvers and shows up when things are really screwy and then can basically be used in almost any way. sometimes he jobs, sometimes he's the heavy, cosmic force most consider him to be. but he's the guy that when he shows up you know things are serious.
he has defeated some powerful mystical entities, but they are very old and were never really followed up on so trying to judge their power is fruitless . his power is always alluded to, but rarely demonstrated. he even has 4 seperate origins, ranging from the wandering jew, to his being an actual angel.
he's really quite unique, and like i said, doesn't fit in these battle scenarios at all.

I know it would be out of character for Ps to be facing down Thanos but in forum battles you dont need a story. I mean come on. They fight and thats all there is to it.
I never said he was weak. His power levels are vague yet why do most give him the win here when he is facing someone with feats galore. Not only that but the fact that Odin didnt put Thanos down in quite a long skirmish in asgard.
Which dr fate did he beat? What issue,what was the context,etc? These are things that are pertinent to the debate at hand.
