it's a combination of both. sorry, i should have clarified. the narration is the writer writing superman's inner thoughts. most of the time, though, superman will let an opponent strike him if it means that opponent won't target people it could actually seriously hurt, like civilians etc.

2. his top speed isn't 2000mps, as he's gone MUCH faster on panel.
I would love for you to do me a favor because I cant find the scan, can you PLEASE post the scan where doomsday is in space on the moon and superman fly after him saying that he flew off faster than light ray. You might learn something from that scan, superman admit that space equal speed.
Light speed isnt light speed when he doesnt have any on panel proof proving this. Would you like for me to post ALL of the scans that proves that superman dont even go close to the speed of light and puts him within the range of 2000 mps.
His bio is a credible source when you have fans boosting a character up that doesnt have that ability.

Superman has at least several feats that puts him on par with light speed in an atmosphere. He has several times traveled half way around the world instantly. He has been miles away and heard a gun shot from several meters away from its victim only to travel there and stop the bullet.
