Well, I gotta say. The scene with the hanged Batman left me squirming for a few seconds- and I'm the guy who sat through Alien and lol'd every time I saw the alien. It was pretty damn graphic.

I've always said that psychological violence will always be far scarier than blood-filled violence. This is the reason why The Ring will always be better and scarier than any generic slasher. This is also the reason why TDK is so disturbing- watching a man psychologically ripped apart and brought to the brink of self-destruction is a lot more unsettling than watching a screaming teen girl hacked to pieces.

True. That scene with the hanging impostor Batman nearly gave me a heart attack when I saw it for the second time...

All the more reason why I need to watch it again. Lolz.

Is it better the second time?

I think so, actually. There was quite a lot to digest in one viewing. I enjoyed it more, at least.

Niceness. A lot of movies are better the second time you watch 'em.

I just hope it won't feel too long during my second viewing. Lolz.

Second time around it was alright, first time I was just shocked and cried like a little baby.

It certainly didn't for me. I felt it was a fairly long film, sure, but I loved every minute of it and was left wishing it had been longer...

Not me, here, but I guess I was somewhat.. err... impatient during my first viewing of it.

I loved every second of the first half, and, for the most part, the second half- during the intermission, I was literally shaking with excitement/adrenaline. Brilliant movie. Make it 10 or 15 minutes shorter and you have cinematic perfection. I know it's just nitpicking, but still, having even small flaws in such a masterpiece- flaws that prevent it from being perfect- kind of annoy me.

No film is flawless. Except for Shawshank.

I watched it first without intermission. Which was awesome. And the second, surprisingly had one. Which just pissed me of incredibly. Totally took you out of the subject. Was annoying as hell.

No film is flawless, period. Even Shawshank. 😉

And I kind of like intermissions in a movie like TDK, which pumps incredible levels of adrenaline in your system; it gives you some time to catch your breath, analyze what happened, think about it, and then be pumped again.

You have films with intermissions? Weird... I've never been to a film with an intermission. Sounds bloody stupid, if you ask me. I can just about understand it for a very long play, especially one which is particularly heavy, or an opera, but a 2-2 1/2 hour film hardly requires an intermission. I think I'd find that pretty annoying, to be honest. It'd just be distracting...

EDIT: I know Shawshank's not flawless, but it's as near as any films gonna get...

I've been in a film with intermission twice. Once in Iceland, apparently cause Icelanders like to have one in order to buy more sweets. And once in Germany, which totally surprised me, because we never have intermissions...and it was just randomly in a scene followed by a car chase. It was horrible.

And Shawshank is a pretty awesome movie.

Well, I would argue that no film can be called the best film ever made or w/e. Just the best of its genre; and TDK easily tops the superhero genre, and is also among the best crime sagas ever.

Shawshank cannot be compared to TDK.

Wow, that really sucks. I mean, I can see the advantages- that you don't miss any of the film to go to the toilet, etc.- but it would really ruin the experience for me. I'd have to try to get into the film again when it restarted and I'd lose the feeling of excitement and suspence built up by the first half...

While I know Shawshank can't fairly be compared to TDK, if I had to choose, I'd say Shawshank was a considerably better than TDK. The acting, the script... it was all damn near perfect.

Same, I guess it's different for people who grew up watching movies with intermissions though.

Of course. Who'd want to deprive the folks in Iceland of their second round of sweets, eh?

Your choice, not gonna argue against it.

You would agree that TDK is one of the best movies of the 21st century so far, right?

It's certainly one of my favourite films of the 21st century, but I'm no film expert, and I'm not going to make wild claims about how great it is. It's not the best film of this century, IMO, but I enjoyed it hugely. But I doubt even I'll feel quite so enthuasiastic about it when I've watched the DVD 6 or 7 times in a couple of months.
If you want some kind of gauge of how good it is, well, I enjoyed this a lot more than I did the horrendously overrated Lord of the Rings films. It's certainly one of my favourite action films in years...

Well, yeah. LotR isn't horrendously overrated, but it's not the masterpiece make it out to be- seriously, these films are just far too long and over-serious. TDK is quite serious, too (ironic. It's tagline is "Why so serious?"😉, but at least it has some sort of humor in it.

TDK is an insanely good movie. I'll tell you this; it's the best movie in years. Definetly the best movie this year. The best film ever made? Worthy of it's ImdB status? Nah. But it's easily better than the vast majority of summer blockbusters, and is one of the greatest- if not THE greatest- crime saga/action movie I have ever seen. (Note: This does not include the Godfather, which is not an action movie in any sense)

It's not how serious the films were that I objected to. It was the fact that they raped one of the greatest series' of books ever...

TDK is pretty damn good, yeah, and is definitely better than most summer blockbusters. However, summer blockbusters are not necessarily where you should be looking for great films...
