Should we risk creating a black hole?

I don't know for sure. But that'd be a sensible conclusion.

In theory you could harvest Hawking radiation from a black hole or feed it stuff and used the radiant X-rays and heat for power. Sure, everyone would be in terrible terrible danger, but you could still do it.

It takes the power of a sun to create a blackhole...

It is true that large black holes are commonly formed by the collapse of big, dense stars but the star's ability to produce energy is irrelevant. Microblack holes require large amounts of energy but hardly the energy of a star.

Thanks for droppin' some knowledge on us, Chaos.

Though perhaps I should rephrase my statement?

**** Science that could potentially end up ****ing us all up?

What are we going to benefit from creating a black hole am not reading a lot of good things coming out of this, the cons are out weighing the pros

true but (being the keyword) we could make major leaps and bounds for our great great grandchildren...lol

... if we don't all perish in a matter of seconds.

Or, we could just create some new weapon with which to kill more people !

that explains it 😉

don't believe the hype. If risk associated with this, and your desire to avoid it, were applied to life you would never get out of bed, as it is way more likely that you will fall and break your neck as you get up.

You are then posed with a strange conundrum, as getting into bed would prove far more dangerous than the LHC...

I really have to question the quality of your sources on this one

........Black holes don't work like that, Doctor Who.

My sources tell me it is.

**** your sources. Black Holes aren't giant batteries, people. It's a huge ass void in space that sucks up and presumably dematerializes anything it takes(though that is debatable). Making a Black Hole is like making a giant gun and aiming it at earth.

see, heres the thing

THIS experiment at the LHC is not trying to create a black hole, it is an impossibly unlikely outcome.

this experiment was about creating black holes:

its possible these people know better than you?

Come on, that shit is racist. 😉

YouTube video

Not really. What an illiterate idiot.

You're trying to make a point, but in a roundabout way you're saying that they're creating a black hole, which was the discussion in the first place.

its possible these people know better than you?

On the grounds of common sense? No. I have met someone who, scientifically, was beyond and term for smart ever created. However, the guy didn't know when to stop.

wonderful, except thats not even close to what I said at all

thats fine, im saying they understand the science better than you

No, that's exactly what you said. You just didn't mean it like that, even though THIS ENTIRE THREAD IS ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THEY SHOULD MAKE A BLACK HOLE.

thats fine, im saying they understand the science better than you

And why does that matter? Your entire argument is ridiculous. I know enough about science to know that a Black Hole is bad news, and they know that too. They just want to make 'discoveries' at the cost of people.

hence the entire thread is based upon a misconception of how the LHC works, meaning that I am not saying they are trying to make a black hole, but in fact that the people discussing the issue are not well enough informed about the science

aside from the unscientific tone of that statement, it is entirely incorrect. Black holes, as impossibly unlikely as they are from this experiment, would not pose any danger to anyone on earth

oh, and you can back that up, or this is a conspiracy rant?

And that right there is what's wrong. You have no idea what the argument's about.

That doesn't mean that it is harmless. The amount of quarks, a stabilization when it comes to certain particles(believed to be what stabilizes Black Holes into existence to a small extent), can't be measured on our planet. He is only giving a hypothetical result on location and timing.

oh, and you can back that up, or this is a conspiracy rant?

It's called, once again, common sense.

Says the pot to the kettle, considering I just explained to you a form of black hole stabilization. You only say this insult because you have no argument against my proof.
Dumbass.
