everyone and their dog knows it's gonna happen.
Everyone and their dog knows it will happen. But what no one knows for sure is if it will be handled by the same cast and crew that have so wonderfully handled the last two.
Batman & Batman Returns: set the tone, drew the crowds, pleased the fans, established Batman, stupidly murdered-off major villains.
Batman Forever and Batman&Robin: Tossed out the tone, drew the crowds, embarrased the fans, contradicted the first two, etc; and while still apparently taking place in the same continuity.
The difference? Respect for the franchise and it's fans were obvious in the first two. The third and fourth simply patronized the fans.
Begins and Dark Knight didn't do any of those negative things, at least not to this fan. In fact, I was so insulted by Batman & Robin that I didn't even go and see Begins in the theaters. It wasn't until a friend of mine forced me to watch it that I gave it a chance. My friend wasn't wrong. It was very good...obviously.
Now we're faced with the prospect that the studio will churn out 2 or 3 shitty films that are supposed to take place in the already-established continuity of these two, after they've handed it over to the likes of a fill-in like Schumacher. Batman will be played by John Krasinski and Alfred will be played by Ricky Gervais.
I'm not saying that only Nolan can direct it. But I hope he writes it, at least. Bale and the supporting cast, however, are essential to this film being even remotely plausible. (I'm already irritated by Gyllehalllaealllhyla, or how ever the hell it's spelled, being re-cast as Rachel; and it has nothing to do it the fact that she's so ugly when she looks at you in the eye you can see her brain through those replusive nostrils) I was very pleased her ugly ass got blown up to death. Anyone else think Mrs. Tom Cruise is pooping her panties and kicking herself over passing up the chance to be in the second biggest film in American history?

The hype will build soon anyway, because it's now pretty much official that there'll be a couple more films. I'm pretty sure there was doubt that there would be a SM4 'til recently. Yes, I know Batman 3 hasn't been confirmed, but everyone and their dog knows it's gonna happen.
I look forward to it. Both Nolan and Bale will be returning that's a given.
I'm also positive that the story will be great.
