Yes, rain fire saved Thanos. It came at a cost, as it wasted his own troops too, so he wouldn't have given that order unless absolutely necessary.

He beat carol with one friggin arm. The guy is pre occupied fighting heroes and he still works her over.

She cut the stones off so with just grabbing it he is able to absorb the power which kills lesser characters while touching it alone.

Carol lost to a one armed Thanos. SW was defeated despite infinity stone power used solely on Thanos.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Thanos won.
