Meh. McClane can be as durable as the Hulk if he wants to be. That's not why Jack is the ultimate badass. It is because of the emotional pain as well as the physical that he endures that makes him so admirable. McClane has never had to kill his best friend (on at least 2 different occasions) to stop a nuclear bomb from going off. He's never had to play Russian roulette with a scared prison guard and watch him tragically die in front of him. That's why Jack is more badass IMO. Any old action hero can endure, hell, Frank Martin survived a plane crash (although Jack did too), but the thing that makes Jack a more compelling character is that he sacrifices. Also, while McClane may not get attention from the police, with Jack's he's outright been hunted and had to avoid police to perform his duty. Unlike McClane, who just lost his wife due to marital problems, everybody Jack has ever loved has been forcibly taken away from him. Like I said, any action hero can be durable, but emotions are what make them compelling. And as AGDTDH showed, ramping up McClane's durability doesn't make him any more compelling. Matter of fact, it completely weakens why you considered him a badass in the first place.
